8TH GRADE ORIENTATION |
The 8th Grade orientation program is planned in the spring as a single session day for staff development in the district. The program has been designed to enable each student to get a taste of both the academic and extracurricular aspects of life at MHS.
Middle School teachers will supervise students on the bus transporting them to the high school to arrive at 11:00 am. The eighth graders will enter through the auditorium entrance where they will be greeted by Dr. Miron and the High School Peer Leaders who will escort them to the cafeteria for lunch. Pizza, water and cookies will be provided and hosted by the PTO and incoming freshmen parents.
Students will be assigned to one of 6 groups and will rotate through five stations:
- Guidance, where they will meet with their counselor and select courses
- MHS ACE where they will be told what resources are available to them in the high school should they need someone to listen
- Athletics, where they will learn about the sports programs at MHS
- Activities, where representatives of clubs will provide information about their programs
- Peer Leadership Dialogue, where Peer Leaders will answer questions and talk about life in the high school
- Tours of the high school where they will learn how to navigate the building
The program will conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m. at which time students will leave to return home. Parents are asked to pick up their students in front of the high school. Some students may wish to leave from the high school to go home or downtown and may do so with parental permission. Bus transportation to the Middle School will also be available.
